The summer heat is here to stay. We’ve already reached that point where most of our outdoor time is restricted to being in the pool, because it’s just too hot to do anything else. It’s also that time of year where we tend to stick closer to home, venturing out much less often because of the heat.
In some ways, this is a good thing. It allows me to better plan my days to allow me to write and accomplish things. I have more time for things like the class that I am currently taking online (a class about forensic science, in case you were wondering. Of course forensic science – what else would a romantic suspense author want to learn? lol).
Meals get lighter, drinks colder, and I spend a lot of time trying out new bug repellents because the mosquitoes and yellow flies consider me an all you can eat buffet. I love summer. I love the laidback, relaxed time with my kids (not that we don’t get enough time together anyway), and the cool water of the pool. The time with friends becomes more special because it is rarer, and the sound of thunder becomes something that is both dreaded and welcomed. And I get sunburned – repeatedly. As I write this, I’m recovering from a day at the lake with friends last week, with skin that is still a rather bright shade of red.
It’s also a time of year when I’m able to get more reading done. Between the storms and the heat that makes it feel like moving will make you look like a dried out mummy taken out of a tomb, there’s lots of time for reading. Right at this moment, I’m re-reading the Anne of Green Gables series. I’m up to book 4, Anne of Windy Poplars, and almost done with it. Once I finish this series, I’ll be reading The Fault In Our Stars. I’ve heard so much about it that I’m giving in and going to read it.
I know you might be looking for a good read, as well. Whether you’re looking to avoid the heat of summer, or looking for something to make it a little hotter, The Secrets He Kept just might be what you want. And I can make it even better for you: starting Sunday, June 1st, it’ll be on sale for just $0.99 for a week! That’s right – 76% off the regular price. How can you possibly pass that up? Okay, you’ve already read it, so you can pass it up. But I bet your friends haven’t, and how can you let them miss out on a great deal like this? You can’t! So let them know, won’t you?
For now, I’ve gotten a lot done this morning, so now I’m off to take a break with my book while I have a quick lunch. Then the kids and I will go outside, where they will run around like heathens and work up a sweat and I will sit on the porch and work one up. Then we’ll hit the pool – at least, I hope we will. There’s a good chance of rain today, so we might have to switch up our plans. We’ll see.
I hope your summer is getting off to a wonderful start. Any big plans? What about little plans?
