NaNoWriMo, elections and life in general

I haven’t posted much this month, and probably won’t post much, because I’ve been so busy.

I’d begun working on what I thought was going to be my third novel, but something went a little off-kilter with my plot and it just wasn’t working for me. I believe it will at some future point, but right now it just wasn’t. And then I got an idea for another story, and since the start of NaNoWriMo was just around the corner, I figured what the hell. For those not in the know, NaNoWriMo is National Novel Writing Month. You enter and commit to write 50,000 words by November 30th. It doesn’t matter if the words are good, bad, or indifferent; whether they make sense or not. It’s all about, as they put it, “literary abandon.” So I decided to make this new idea my idea for NaNoWriMo, and so far, things are going very, very well. I’m nearly 20,000 words in in just 6 days. There are parts that will be cut later, but for now, I’m just going with the flow, wherever it takes me.

I’ve also been rather busy on the homeschooling front. Part of our curriculum this year included elections and government, taking advantage of today’s elections to make it real, and more exciting. As we were coming down to the wire, we’ve been trying very hard to fit in everything that I wanted them to understand before today. We’ll still be busy tomorrow, as well, as we discuss the results of the actual election compared to what polls before the election indicated.

As we get further into the month, there’s Christmas shopping, Thanksgiving, and decorating for Christmas. Then of course, there’s December: baking, wrapping, celebrating, publishing, and everything else that goes along with the end of the year.

Don’t go too far away, though, because I will still be updating from time to time, when I can. There might even be a few articles, depending on how things go.

And with that, I’m off to add to my word count.
