My top 3 NEW favorite writers

Stack of vintage books isolated on white

During my Summer of (Fictional) Love, I read mostly authors that were new to me. Most of these authors have been published before, and I just hadn’t read them, but a few were debut authors, too.

I enjoyed pretty much all the books I read. There were a few exceptions, of course. Overall, though, I found a whole list of new authors that I look forward to reading again.

I also found a few new favorites. Which is why I thought I’d share my top 3 new favorites today. These don’t replace old favorites like Stephen King and Nora Roberts, but they join their ranks. Being on this list means that pretty much anything they write, I will buy and read.

Without further ado, here’s the list:

  1. Sidney Halston. I read Laid Out as my introduction to this author and it was amazing. She drew me in, made me laugh and cry. She wrote a beautiful book that’s part of a series of beautiful books that I can’t wait to read all of them. Laid_Out Cover
  2. Tina Wainscott. Falling Fast was my first Wainscott book, and it drew me in with tenderness, passion, intrigue, and family relationships. I enjoyed this book so thoroughly that I almost wanted to stop with the rest of the books on my list for the Summer of (Fictional) Love and just read her backlist. FALLING FAST
  3. Stacey Kennedy. Commanded is several books into the Club Sin series, but it was the first book I read. I was drawn in by the fact that the book wasn’t quite what I expected. She wrote a unique book that still managed to fit perfectly with the series idea as a whole. That takes skill and talent, and I definitely want to read more. Commanded_Kennedy

There are also 4 authors who deserve an honorable mention. These are authors whose books I enjoyed immensely, and would be interested in reading again. They are, in no particular order:

  1. Elisabeth Barrett
  2. Laura Marie Altom
  3. Renita Pizzitola
  4. Serena Bell

Who did you read this summer? Did you discover any new-to-you favorite authors?

  1. I didn’t read a lot this summer, unfortunately. The kids kept me so busy. I did pick up the Cary Elwes memoir about his time filming The Princess Bride. I hope to get started on that soon when things slow down a bit.

    1. I know how that goes. I always feel restless if I don’t get to read, so I try to make time every day to read – even if it’s right before bed. The Cary Elwes book sounds interesting, too. I may have to see about picking it up for myself.

(I apologize if this is a duplicate comment. The first one isn’t showing up and I wanted to make sure it went through.)

  3. That last book looks very interesting – love the cover! 😉 I’ve been reading a lot of non-fiction lately but some of these look good for a little escape from that.

    1. It was a very good book! All of them were, in fact. You can find reviews for all of them in the blog, too, if you want more details on them. 🙂 I read non-fiction, too, but I almost always have to have a novel to go with it. I’m not sure why – I guess I’m just not happy unless I’m living in a few fantasy worlds.

  4. Sadly most of my reading this summer has been children’s books. I haven’t had much time to myself to pick up a good book. But you gave me some great ideas for some new titles! I’ll definitely have to look into these.

    1. Children’s books can be fun, too. I enjoy a good children’s book now and then. I actually just requested an advance copy of a children’s Christmas book because it sounded so interesting to me. I don’t know yet if I’ll get to read it that way, but I’ll probably go buy it if I don’t.

  5. This was the first summer I didn’t have my nose stuck in a book – I was busy studying for teacher certification. But now that it’s over I can’t wait to get my hands on some good reading.
