Last night of the year!

Tonight is, of course, New Year’s Eve. I spent some of the day writing, but now I’ve set my work aside and am enjoying the night with family. My kids and I are doing are usual NYE activities: board games, card games, Wii games, soda, snacks, and waiting for midnight.

The kids love it because it’s the one night a year that they not only get to stay up until the middle of the night (for them, at least!), but they also get (what they think is) unlimited soda and snacks! How wonderful is life when you’re a child and that’s all it takes to make your year? lol

I love it because it’s the one night a year that I know the next morning, I will get to sleep until at least 9. How sad is that when you’re an adult and that’s all it takes to make your year? lol

Truthfully, though, it’s a good night. My kids and I have a blast together, safe and at home. Tomorrow is the start of a new year, with fresh intentions and new beginnings. I’m not much of a resolution person, but there’s something about the start of a year, when it’s open to every possibility and nothing is decided yet. It’s invigorating.

While I’m not a resolution person in general, I do have a few things I intend to change this year, and I figure that New Year’s Day is a good day to start those changes. When faced with a clean slate, why not try to make it as pretty as possible, right?

For now, the kids are ready for a round of Uno, and I’m ready to get back to the party. Whatever you’re doing tonight, enjoy it! But remember to call a cab or designate a driver so that you get home safely and ensure that you’re not responsible for someone else not getting home safely. And if you’re ringing in the new year at home, enjoy a wonderful evening with your family and friends and let’s all watch the ball drop together!

Happy New Year! Here’s to a great year in 2014!
