Summer is finally over!

Those are words I’ve never said before. I love summer. The long, lazy days. The swimming. The movies. The time with friends that isn’t restricted by needing to get school done. I have more time for writing, and just generally get more accomplished even while relaxing. Usually. This summer, though, was different. This summer was a very rough summer. And […]

You say I'm unique like it's a bad thing!

I have a handful of friendships that have carried forward from my teenage and very early young adult years – people I’ve known since high school or the two years or so immediately after. One such friendship is with a man whom I’ve grown rather distant from in the last few years, as we have some extremely different views on […]

Mystery TV and movies

I read a wide variety of books – mysteries, thrillers, romance, history, and more. When it comes to TV and movies, I tend to watch what catches my fancy, which may or may not fit into a genre I read or ordinarily watch. I love watching a good mystery or thriller, though. I’m a huge fan of Criminal Minds, Elementary, […]

The fruits of my break

A couple of weeks ago, I took the day off completely and headed out to the Medieval Faire with my kids and my parents. We spent the day checking out the shows, the games, and the works of art in the form of jewelry, wax roses, weaponry, and more. We also ate some yummy food (my teen tried a deep […]

The best date I ever had

With Valentine’s Day coming up on Sunday, I was thinking about romance themed things I could write about this week. And I thought of this: the best date that I ever went on. First, let me tell you about the man who took me on this date. His name was Brian (or maybe he spelled it Bryan, I can’t remember […]

Mourning the death of a familiar stranger

(Photo Credit: Steve Alexander (originally posted to Flickr as Glenn Frey) [CC BY-SA 2.0 (], via Wikimedia Commons) In recent days, we’ve lost famous names we all know: David Bowie, Alan Rickman, Glenn Frey. Many of us have cried, or otherwise felt such deep sadness over their passing. Someone wondered why we mourn these people that we don’t know.  I think […]

Fantasy of romance vs reality

As an adult, I’ve had enough relationships to realize that they don’t all end in happy ever after, and that happy for the moment is the best we get sometimes. I’ve learned who I am, both in and out of a relationship, and that it’s important that I retain that knowledge and don’t let go of it in an attempt to hold on to a relationship that simply isn’t meant to be. I can support friends as they struggle to work out problems in a relationship, and lend a shoulder to cry on when they walk away, as well as smile happily at their weddings or the births of their children.

I had a boring week!

After three weeks of disasters, last week was actually pretty boring. One day, my cat decided to race through the house like his butt was on fire, jump on a table and knock my hot chocolate and oatmeal all over the table, the chair, me, and my laptop. I had to race to get the hot chocolate off my laptop, […]

Just a quick update

No book review today (but I believe I have three coming up next week for you). Today’s post is actually going to be pretty short and sweet. It’s been raining here for about two or three weeks straight now. Not 24/7, but extensively enough to leave parts of my street underwater, eliminate all possibility of swimming, and pretty much make […]

Work is the new relaxation

Last week was a busy week for me. I had plans to go to the beach on Monday, then morning plans on both Tuesday and Wednesday, and midday plans on Thursday. I had worked out how to do all these things and still find time to write. Then my beach plans got changed at the last minute, and suddenly my […]
